Indians form 20% of Ireland’s international student base, the largest in the country, according to a report by ApplyBoard. The report also noted that the country has seen a 29.8% year-on-year growth in Indian students. The trend highlights the growing popularity of Ireland as a study abroad destination for Indian students.
“Indian students remained the largest international student population in Ireland, and rose by 30% year-over-year,” said the report, which made the cohort a key driver of Ireland’s educational sector. The report noted that this growth has been seen across study levels.
According to ApplyBoard’s Fall 2025 Student Pulse Survey, Ireland also had the lowest rate of negative perception among the six top study abroad destinations, which also included Canada, Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

However, the popularity of Ireland among the students is driven not only by the positive perception of the country but also by its superior academic programs for business, administration, law and STEM.
Ireland has become a popular study abroad destination for Indian students in recent years, primarily due to its high-quality education, diverse course options, affordable tuition, strong job market, post-study work permits, and a safe and welcoming environment. Here’s a detailed look at what Ireland offers Indian students:
Top Universities in Ireland
Ireland offers Indian students top-ranked universities, including Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences, and University College Cork. These universities offer strong programs in business, tech, STEM and law.
Post Study Work Visa Ireland Indian Students
Ireland offers Stamp 1G post-study work visa, which lets non-EEA graduates, like Indian students, stay in the country and look for jobs after studies. Level 8 (graduates) can stay for 12 months, and Level 9 (master’s/PhD students) can stay for 24 months in two 12-month blocks with full-time work. This opens up access to jobs in EU markets with competitive salaries.
Affordable Study in Ireland Costs for Indians
Studying in Ireland for Indian students is affordable at €10,000-€35,000 annually, which is much lesser than US and UK fees. With visas, students can also get part-time work to cover their living expenses. Scholarships offered by the Government of Ireland can also go a long way in helping students live and study comfortably in Ireland.
Safe and Welcoming for Indian Students
Ireland has a very positive perception regarding student safety, and for good reason. The country has very low crime rates, unions that safeguard the rights of students, and a thriving Indian community in Dublin and Cork. These qualities make Ireland exceptionally welcoming for Indian students and make them feel like home.
